JERUSALEM, May 30 (Xinhua) -- Israeli Security Cabinet convened on Wednesday and decided to continue the crackdown on Palestinian militants, in an effort to halt the Qassam rocket barrages against southern Israeli communities.

According to a statement released by the Israeli Prime Minister's office, the members of the Security Cabinet were briefed on the effectiveness of Israel's military actions, which the security elements believed to have led to a relative decrease in Qassam rockets fire.

It was emphasized at the meeting that Israel is not going to negotiate a ceasefire with any Palestinian factions.

The statement said that Israel will continue to exert its military pressure on Palestinian militants, especially Hamas (Islamic Resistance Movement) and Islamic Jihad, without being held to any specific timetable.

The decision of the security cabinet, which consists a group of senior ministers in the government, means that Israel will continue its current policy of targeted assassinations against Hamas and the Islamic Jihad members in the Gaza Strip while restrain from large scale ground incursions.

Earlier on Wednesday, four Qassam rockets were fired from Gaza at Israel, one of them hit a building in southern Israeli town of Sderot, but caused no injuries.

According to statistics of the Israel Defense Forces, more than 270 rockets have been launched by Palestinian militants against Israel since May 15.

Two Israeli civilians were killed in the attacks in the past two weeks.

In response to the rocket barrages, Israel carried out a series of air strikes and targeted killings against Palestinian militants in Gaza in the past two weeks, killing dozens of them.
