MADRID, May 28 (Xinhua) -- Spanish police have arrested 14 people suspected
of recruiting volunteers for terror training in a wide-ranging operation against
Islamic militants, local media reported.
The police arrested 11 people in Barcelona region of Catalonia, two in the
central town of Aranjuez, south of Madrid, and one in the southern city of
Malaga.
The suspects, who were thought to be Moroccan, face charges of recruiting
people for training to fight in Iraq and Afghanistan, the police said.
No weapons and explosives were discovered, local media said.
The operation against Islamic militants is continuing and more suspects
would be arrested, the police added.
Spanish police have arrested dozens of suspected Islamic militants since
the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001 and the 2004 train bombings in Madrid. A
total of 29 suspects, mainly Moroccan, are on trial in Madrid for their alleged
roles in the Madrid train attacks, which lead to the deaths of 191
people.
