BRUSSELS, May 27 (Xinhua) -- Dutch club Ajax has joined PSV Eindhoven as
Netherlands' entrants into the UEFA Champions League next season following a 3-0
second-leg play-off win over AZ Alkmaar on Sunday.
Trailing 2-1 from the first leg at the DSB Stadion, Henk ten Cate's side
scored three second-half goals to claim a 4-2 victory on aggregate at the
Amsterdam Arena.
Defender John Heitinga opened the scoring for Ajax in the 55th minute with a
contentious goal. Ajax's lead was doubled three minutes later when defender Ryan
Donk put the ball through his own net.
AZ came close to levelling the aggregate scores in the 68th minute with
their first real chance after a lacklustre performance.
A cross from midfielder Nourdin Boukhari from the right found striker Shota
Arveladze in the middle of the penalty area, but he could only direct the header
wide of goal keeper Marten Stekelenburg's right post.
The home side wrapped up the victory in the dying stages of the game after Stekelenburg's
long goal-kick lands found Huntelaar who was able to evade the AZ
defence.
Huntelaar dummied the ball past Waterman before laying it off to Gabri (90)
to calmly slot into an open net to seal Ajax's place in the third
round qualifying stage of the Champions League.
