BEIJING, May 27 (Xinhua) -- Top Chinese legislator Wu
Bangguo's Africa and Europe tour has helped deepen political trust and boost
practical cooperation between China and the three nations that he has just
visited, said a senior official who accompanied Wu on the tour.
Wu arrived in Beijing Sunday morning after wrapping
up his visits to Egypt, Hungary and Poland.
During the visit, Wu, chairman of the Standing
Committee of China's National People's Congress (NPC), met with the three
nation's top leaders, government officials and parliament speakers, exchanging
views on bilateral relations, inter-parliamentary cooperation and important
regional and international issues of common concern.
Cao Weizhou, deputy secretary general of the NPC
Standing Committee, told reporters en route to Beijing that Wu's visit, one of
China's major diplomatic efforts this year, has helped deepen political trust
and advance practical cooperation with the three countries.
The summit of the China-Africa Cooperation Forum last
year in Beijing helped cement a new strategic relationship between China and
African nations. At the summit, Chinese President Hu Jintao announced eight
measures to strengthen China's cooperation with African countries. President Hu
visited eight African countries earlier this year.
Wu's African tour was aimed at putting into effect
the common ground Chinese and African leaders had reached at the Beijing summit
and promoting the implementation of the agreements of the meeting, Cao said.
In Egypt, Wu exchanged views with Egyptian leaders on
bilateral ties and international and regional issues of common concern.
In Hungary, his discussions with Hungarian leaders
focused on developing Chinese-Hungarian ties and Chinese-European ties while in
Poland, Wu reiterated China's stance on the issues of Taiwan, Tibet and human
rights.
China and the three countries expressed hope that
both sides will strengthen consultation and coordination to better safeguard
their common interests, Cao said.
The visit to Egypt also identified the field and way
to boost bilateral economic and trade cooperation, he said.
Both China and Egypt agreed to strengthen bilateral
cooperation in such fields as infrastructure, tourism, investment and
telecommunications. They also pledged to work jointly to make the ongoing
cooperative projects an example for the rest ones.
During his stay in Hungary, Wu discussed the broad
prospect for bilateral cooperation in such fields as trade, infrastructure,
processing industry, tourism, science and technology.
The Hungarian side vowed to make Hungary a bridgehead
for China-Europe cooperation and the center for logistics, finance and trade in
the China-Europe ties.
In Poland, Wu said the two countries should find new
ways of cooperation, encourage two-way investment and encourage enterprises to
play a key role in boosting bilateral economic and trade cooperation.
Cao said Wu's visits, the first-ever to Hungary and
Poland and the first in recent 12 years to Egypt by an NPC Standing Committee
chairman, forged closer inter-parliamentary relations.
Wu and speakers of the three parliaments agreed to
strengthen the understanding and friendship between the peoples, boost political
mutual trust, forge the practical cooperation by strengthening
inter-parliamentary exchanges.
Wu's tour has deepened the three nations'
understanding of China's development path and achievements in modernization, Cao
said.
During the tour, Wu briefed leaders of the three
countries on China's socialism with Chinese characteristics, which has brought
China profound and significant changes. He said the road, suiting China's
national conditions, confirming to the trend of the times and representing the
Chinese people's will, has brought China a bright prospect.
Leaders of the three countries appreciated China's
achievements and praised China's important role in international affairs,
according to Cao.
