CAIRO, May 26 (Xinhua) -- An Egyptian officer operating with the peacekeeping force in the western Sudan region of Darfur was killed, the Egyptian foreign ministry spokesman confirmed to Xinhua on Saturday.
The victim, Lieutenant Colonel Ihab Ahmad, died of wounds on Saturday in a hospital after robbers shot him and ransacked his home in Fashir on Friday, North Darfur's capital, said Alaa Hadidi, quoting what the United Nations and African Union told Egypt's embassy in Khartoum.
Investigations are under way for more details about the circumstances of the attack, the Egyptian foreign ministry said in a statement.
