BEIJING, May 25 -- The U.S. President is defending his war policy in Iraq by revealing previously classified intelligence about al-Qaida chief Osama bin Laden.

George W. Bush said on Wednesday that he had received information about bin Laden which suggested that the al-Qaida chief was thinking of sending a top lieutenant and paramilitary leader to Iraq in 2005. Bin Laden allegedly wanted the man to set up a base in the country in order to launch attacks into the U.S.

The President's address comes just as Democrats in Congress are pushing even harder for a draw-down of the U.S. military presence in Iraq.
