KATHMANDU, May 25 (Xinhua) -- Nepal was on a high alert considering the
possible entry of the avian flu to the country from border areas of India and
Bangladesh, the National News Agency RSS reported on Friday.
While managing tight security, Biratnagar Regional Livestock Service
Directorate has urged not to import and use the eggs, chickens and any bird
related products from neighboring countries.
Director Baikuntha Parajuli said the import of chickens and its products
from the neighboring countries is banned especially in some districts of Eastern
Development Region citing the possible risk of the deadly disease.
According to the directorate, thousands of chickens died in Sawar near
Dhaka, the capital city of Bangladesh, three months ago.
Bird flu has been spread in the border areas of India abutting Bangladesh,
the RSS said.
