ISLAMABAD, May 24 (Xinhua) -- Militants fired seven rockets at a paramilitary fort in the city of Tank in northwestern Pakistan in an overnight attack, an official said Thursday.
The private NNI news agency quoted police chief in the city Mumtaz Zareen as saying that two rockets landed inside the fort while five outside.
There were no casualties from the rocket attack in Tank, a city at the edge of troubled South Waziristan late Wednesday.
Tank is in North West Frontier Province, about 100 km from the Afghan border.
Zareen said that unidentified miscreants fired seven rockets from the eastern parts of Tank at the fort of Frontier Constabulary.
All exploded with a big bang, witnesses said.
They said that one rocket caused minor damage to a fort wall.
The Tank city has recently seen attacks on police and paramilitary posts as well as government buildings. A peace jirga, or council of elders, is trying to maintain peace in the city.
The police chief said that inimical elements fired the rocket to foil attempt from the peace jirga.
Zareen said that officials had handed over names of 24 people who were involved in attacks. He did not identify the attackers.
In another incident, three rockets were fired at a police station at Bannu, a major city in the region, damaging the wall of the station. However, no one was hurt in the attack.
Nobody claimed responsibility for the attacks.
There were severe clashes in the city of Tank in late March when hundreds of heavily armed militants attacked security forces in the city. Up to 25 militants were killed along with a soldier and a civilian there.
