KUALA LUMPUR, May 23 (Xinhua) -- Samsung Malaysia Electronics Sdn Bhd, a
manufacturer of electrical products, expects to increase its local mobile phone
market share to 30 percent this year, local press reported Wednesday.
The local unit of the South Korean firm, which currently covers a 20
percent mobile phone market share in Malaysia, has a target to post sales of 350
million U.S. dollars from its mobile phone business in the country.
"We hope to sell some 5,000 units of mobile phones in one month from each
model," said Min Yong Ho, chief executive officer and managing director of
Samsung Malaysia Electronics, was quoted as saying by the New Straits Times.
Demand for hand phones in Malaysia is expected to hit some 3.5 million
units this year, Min said Tuesday after launching three new models here.
Mobile phones make up 60 percent of Samsung Malaysia's revenue, but it
plans to raise the percentage to 65 percent, added the report.
