Fighting in northern Lebanon enters
third day
BEIRUT, May 22 (Xinhua) -- The fighting between the
Lebanese troops and militants around a Palestinian refugee camp in northern
Lebanon entered the third day on Tuesday, after clashes left at least 79 dead in
the previous two days, local daily The Daily Star reported.
The paper quoted security sources as saying that by
Monday night, 25 militants had been killed and 40 were in custody. Full story

Lebanon seeks Interpol's help in probing car with Beirut
blast
BEIRUT, May 22 (Xinhua) -- The Lebanese
government has asked the Interpol to help find out the origin of a car used in
Sunday's Ashrafiyeh blast that killed a woman and wounded 18 people, local paper
The Daily Star reported online on Tuesday.
The government is seeking the
Interpol's help because the car used in the blast was a Japanese-made Suzuki but
was not registered in Lebanon, security sources were quoted as saying. Full story
Huge explosion rocks Christian area of
Beirut
BEIRUT, May 20 (Xinhua) -- A bomb planted
under a car bomb in central Beirut's Christian neighborhood exploded late
Sunday, killing one woman and wounding a dozen other people.
The explosive device, which was placed under a car in a
parking lot near an upscale shopping mall in Achrafye, destroyed dozens of cars
and sent black smoke billowing over the area. Full story
