BEIRUT, May 22 (Xinhua) -- A UN aid convoy was hit Tuesday afternoon in resumed fighting in a Palestinian refugee camp in northern Lebanese city of Tripoli between Fatah al-Islam militants and Lebanese troops, pan-Arab satellite TV station Al-Jazeera reported.

    The convoy was attacked as it tried to enter the Nahr el-Bared refugee camp, where the conflict between the Lebanese troops and militants entered the third day on Tuesday.

    The report said the convoy was trying to deliver relief material including food and water to the Palestinian refugees in the camp when it was under fire.

    But there is no immediate report about the casualties in the incident.

    The report added the UN aid workers will try again to enter the refugee camp since the civilians there are in dire need of food and medicine.

    A unilateral ceasefire attempt of Fatah al-Islam, that based in the Palestinian refugee camp, collapsed on Tuesday afternoon as a fierce battle resumed between the militants of the group and Lebanese troops.

    The fighting started at dawn Sunday after security forces raided homes in the Nahr el-Bared refugee camp in northern Tripolito arrest suspects in a bank robbery happened one day ago during which four masked gunmen robbed a bank in the northern town of Amioun and made off with 125,000 U.S. dollars in cash.

    Militants from the faction Fatah al-Islam then attacked army posts at the camp, sparking the days-long fighting which has killed at least 79 people.
