Special Report: Iran Nuclear Crisis
TEHRAN, May 22 (Xinhua) -- Two inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) arrived in Iran on Tuesday to visit the country's nuclear sites, local Fars news agency reported.
During their one-week mission, the two inspectors are due to visit Isfahan uranium conversion facility and Natanz enrichment facility, Fars said.
The visits of the IAEA inspectors fall within the safeguard agreement of the Non-Proliferation Treaty and are viewed as the agency's routine inspections of nuclear sites, the report said.
The UN Security Council unanimously adopted on March 24 a new resolution with tougher sanctions to pressure Iran to suspend uranium enrichment activities.
Iran has refused to heed the Security Council's demand, insisting that its nuclear programs are for peaceful purposes only.
The United States and some other Western countries have accused Iran of trying to develop nuclear weapons under the cover of its civilian nuclear programs.
