BEIJING, May 22 -- Veteran Chinese director Chen
Kaige will be the jury president as the 10th Shanghai International Film
Festival kicks off on June 16.
The Beijing News reports that 16 movies are listed to compete for this year's Jinjue Award at the festival, as
announced at a press conference on Monday.
According to the organizer, this year's festival will
provide an all-around movie trading platform.
A record of 895 movies from 73 countries and regions
applied to compete at this year's festival.
Four Chinese movies, including "Wu Qingyuan", "Eye in
the Sky ", "The Knot" and "Shanghai Red" are among the candidates.
Last year's festival boasted of its status as the
year's most star-studded festival in China, with 207 movie stars from home and
abroad in attendance.
The organizer has vowed that there won't be any fewer
stars this year, but that the final list won't be released until at the end of
this month.
