BEIJING,
May 18 (Xinhuanet) -- Comedian Jerry Seinfeld caused a buzz in Cannes --
when he dressed up as a fuzzy bumblebee and performed a stunt unparalleled
Thursday in the history of the 60-year-old movie festival.
Tethered to a wire suspended from the roof of the
world-famous Carlton Hotel, Seinfeld flew down over the Croisette as festival
goers looked on.
Actor/Comedian Chris Rock, who also serves as a voice in
the film, emceed the event from the end of the Carlton Pier, engaging Seinfeld
in banter just prior to his descent.
"You know, one thing I hate is any kind of movie
promotion that smacks of desperation in any way," the 53-year-old said, before
jumping from the roof of an eight-storey luxury hotel and heading down to the
beach on a cord.
The 53-year-old came up with the stunt to promote his
new DreamWorks Animation film, "Bee Movie."
Seinfeld voiced the lead character of Barry B Benson,
a disillusioned bee who has just graduated from college in the movie, which had
been more than two years in the making.
The film is expected to be the next release from
Steven Spielberg's company DreamWorks after "Shrek the Third."
Seinfeld said the idea for "Bee Movie" popped
randomly into his head one day as he was eating candy. The next day, he was
invited to eat dinner with Steven Spielberg.
