RIO DE JANEIRO, May 15 (Xinhua) -- Vasco da Gama's veteran Brazilian soccer
striker Romario will restart his quest for his 1,000th goal on Sunday in the
second round of the Brazilian Championship, Vasco manager Celso Roth told local
press on Tuesday.
Roth said that he will field Romario in Sunday's match against Sport
Recife, a team which crushed last Sunday the Santos B team 4-1 in its first
national championship match.
"Romario is in shape. He does a specific job as part of the team and I hope
to have him on the field facing sport," he said.
Romario scored his 999th goal on March 25, in Vasco's 3-0 victory over
rival Flamengo, but has not scored since, as Vasco experiences a rash of poor
results that have led to the sacking of previous manager, Renato
Gaucho.
