BRUSSELS, May 14 (Xinhua) -- European Union (EU) foreign policy chief Javier Solana and representatives of the Arab League clashed on Monday over EU's position on Hamas members of the Palestinian national unity government.

Asked whether the EU's decision not to talk to Hamas members of the Palestinian government is right, Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister Prince Saud Al-Faisal replied briefly: "No, I think it is very wrong."

Amr Moussa, secretary general of the Arab League, added that Al-Faisal's answer "reflects the unanimous position on our side that this is really unfair."

"It is now time to stop the restrictions that have been taken for no reason, (that) have no justification from the point of view of logic and fair policy," said Moussa.

"This is a government of national unity. The platform is a platform of negotiations, that tries to reach peace," he argued.

Solana, clearly agitated by Al-Faisal's and Moussa's remarks, rushed to defend the EU's position despite the fact that the press conference had been declared over by the press secretary.

"We are logical people. We took the decision logically," said Solana. "I thought and still think that is was a right decision to be taken."

It is the first time that Arab League representatives were invited to an EU foreign ministers' meeting. กก
