Former World Bank ethics body chief says Wolfowitz lied at hearing

    BRUSSELS, May 2 (Xinhua) -- World Bank President Paul Wolfowitz lied at a hearing on Monday when he said a bank ethics panel had advised him to give his girlfriend a promotion, the Dutch news agency ANP reported Wednesday.

    Ad Melkert, chairman of the ethics committee at the World Bank at the time, told a Dutch TV program Tuesday that Wolfowitz "certainly did not tell the truth," ANP said.  Full story

Report: Wolfowitz weighs quitting if cleared of wrong doing

    WASHINGTON, May 1 (Xinhua) -- World Bank President Paul Wolfowitz may consider resigning, but only if he is cleared of any wrongdoing in securing a promotion and pay raise for his girlfriend, The Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday.

Switzerland urges Wolfowitz to reflect on eligibility

    GENEVA, April 26 (Xinhua) -- World Bank President Paul Wolfowitz must reconsider his eligibility as the head of a institution that prides itself on its tough anti-corruption stance,Swiss Economics Minister Doris Leuthard said on Thursday.

    At a press conference in Geneva, Leuthard said Wolfowitz, who is now facing a corruption scandal, could hurt the special credibility of the World Bank.  Full story

Germany urges resignation of Wolfowitz

    BERLIN, April 23 (Xinhua) -- Germany openly called on Monday for resignation of World Bank leader Paul Wolfowitz over his handling of a promotion he approved for his girlfriend.

    "The situation, as it is, is no longer acceptable," German Development Minister Heidemarie Wieczorek-Zeul, said in an interview published by the Financial Times Deutschland on Monday.  Full story
