BEIRUT, May 7 (Xinhua)-- At least one Palestinian shot dead on Monday in a
clash between rival factions at a Palestinian refugee camp in southern Lebanon,
security sources said.
The sources said that the clashes erupted at Ein el-Hilweh camp, which is
located in Sidon, the provincial capital of southern Lebanon, after two groups
of the Muslim militants opened fire, leaving at least one dead and another
wounded.
The dead Palestinian is a militant from Fatah movement of Palestinian
President Mahmoud Abbas. He was ambushed after he arrived to pick up his
motorcycle at the scene, the sources added.
Other media reported that the attackers belonged to Jund al-Sham, an
Islamic militant group based in the refugee camp in southern Lebanon.
According to other media report, two Fatah militants were killed in the
clashes, one was instantly killed and the other was seriously wounded and later
died in hospital. But the motive for the clashes was not immediately clear at
the moment.
Ein el-Hilweh camp is the largest of Lebanon's 12 Palestinian refugee
camps, home to some 400,000 Palestinian refugees. There are frequently gunfights
between armed groups in the camp.
