GAZA, May 7 (Xinhua) -- Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said on Monday the Israeli rejection of a new American plan has relieved the Palestinian militant groups that also dismissed the offer.
According to the plan, the Palestinian National Authority (PNA)"was hoping to deploy troops to prevent rocket attacks (on Israel)and stop arms smuggling," Abbas said at a meeting with leaders of his Fatah movement.
"There were unsuitable reactions to the plan but the Israeli rejection has comforted everyone," Abbas added.
The U.S. plan was based on stopping Palestinian attacks against Israel in exchange for Israeli facilities to the Palestinian people who pass through Israeli roadblocks and crossing points.
Factions and militant groups have rejected the plan and the Popular Resistance Committees (PRC) slammed the Palestinian hail of the plan.
Meanwhile, Abbas said the ceasefire between Israel and the militant groups, reached in last November, was collapsing because of the rocket attacks against Israeli communities.
Regarding the Israeli political developments, Abbas said the Israeli situation was "difficult because of the absence of the Israeli government."
