BEIJING, May 7 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu
Jintao on Monday extended his congratulations to Nicolas Sarkozy on his victory
in the French presidential election on Sunday.
In a congratulatory message, President Hu said that China and France have witnessed in-depth development in their
comprehensive strategic partnership in recent years.
And the two sides have made substantial progress in
cooperation in areas of politics, economy and trade, science and technology,
education and judiciary, and have conducted close coordination on major issues
of respective concerns, Hu added.
The Chinese president said that China-France
relations have become a fine example of mutual respect and friendly coexistence
between countries with different historical backgrounds, cultural traditions as
well as countries at different development stages.
Advancing the China-France comprehensive strategic
partnership not only conforms to the fundamental interests of the two countries
and the two peoples, but is conducive to world peace, stability and development,
he said.
The Chinese president said that under new historical
conditions he will work with Sarkozy in accordance with the spirit and
principles of key documents such as the China-France Joint Statement, to promote
the development of bilateral relations from a strategic and long-term
perspective, and through joint efforts in order to turn a new page for
China-France friendly relations and all-round cooperation.

PARIS, May 7 (Xinhua) -- Nicolas Sarkozy's Sunday victory in the French
presidential run-off has ushered in a new page in French politics as the
president-elect has vowed to work along with all the French people to realize
all the changes and reforms they are hoping for.
Sarkozy, representing the ruling right-wing Union for a Popular Movement (UMP),
won the presidential race with over 53 percent of the vote, according to the
results released by the Interior Ministry. Royal, of the left-wing Socialist
Party, got some 47 percent.
Sarkozy wins French presidential race
PARIS, May 6 (Xinhua) -- Right-winger Nicolas Sarkozy has
won the French presidential race by winning 53.7 percent of the vote in Sunday's
run-off with Socialist Segolene Royal, preliminary results show.
He will succeed 74-year-old Jacques Chirac, who has ruled

PARIS, May 6 (Xinhua) -- President-elect Nicolas Sarkozy
said in his victory speech on Sunday that he was ready to "give everything to
France."
"This evening is a victory for France. There is only one
France. I ask you to be generous, to be tolerant, to be fraternal," Sarkozy told

winning French presidency
LONDON, May 6 (Xinhua) -- British Prime Minister Tony
Blair telephoned Nicolas Sarkozy on Sunday to congratulate him on his victory in
the French presidential elections.
The conversation, though very short, was very friendly and
warm, and in which Sarkozy thanked Blair for his congratulations, Blair's office

U.S. congratulates Sarkozy's win in
French presidential elections
WASHINGTON, May 6 (Xinhua) -- U.S. President George W.
Bush telephoned French president-elect Nicolas Sarkozy to congratulate him on
his victory in the French presidential election on Sunday, National Security
Council spokesman Gordon Johndroe said.
