PARIS, May 7 (Xinhua) -- Conservative Nicolas Sarkozy has won the French presidential race by gaining 53.06 percent of the vote, according to final results released by the Interior Ministry early on Monday.

    Socialist candidate Segolene Royal got 46.94 percent of the vote.

    The figures do not include the overseas ballots.
