WASHINGTON, May 4 (Xinhua) -- A student at the Keene State College in the northeastern U.S. state of New Hampshire shot and injured his roommate before killing himself early Friday morning, U.S. media reported.
Local police said the student, Michael Dyke, 21, shot his roommate and then killed himself as police were talking to him through his door. The roommate, 20-year-old Jason Lillibridge, a native of Connecticut, called police after he was shot and suffered a gunshot wound to the buttocks.
Dyke, a native of New Hampshire, was in his bedroom with a rifle with the door closed when police arrived. A single shot was fired, and Dyke was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
The apartment was less than half a kilometer from the college campus, and police were investigating the motive behind the shooting.
Friday was the last day of finals and two days before the college's graduation ceremony. The college, which has some 5,200 students and specializes in liberal arts, said finals and graduation would be carried out as planned.
Founded in 1909, Keen State College mainly focuses on undergraduate education and is affiliated with the University System of New Hampshire. กก
