SHARM EL-SHEIKH, Egypt, May 4 (Xinhua) -- U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said Friday that her talks with Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallem aimed at greater cooperation to stop the flow of foreign fighters into Iraq.
Rice made the remarks at a press conference after the closing of the international ministerial meeting on Iraq's security that started earlier in the day.
Terming the talks with Muallem on Thursday as an "important conversation", Rice underlined that cessation of flow of foreign fighters into Iraq was very important.
Concerning a withdrawal timetable for U.S. troops in Iraq, the U.S. top diplomat said the multinational forces need to remain in Iraq till stability is achieved.
Turning to the issue of Iran, Rice said that "the United States does not desire to have difficulties with any nations" but she admitted that the U.S. has "a number of policy problems with the way that Iran is behaving."
Rice is in Sharm el-Sheikh for the conference on Iraq's security which brought together Iraq's neighboring nations and the world's major powers.
Addressing the conference earlier in the day, Rice said it's a chance for the Iraqi government to speak to the international community on the issue of national reconciliation, border security and reconstruction, and also for the international community to commit continuing support to Iraq.
The one-day meeting ended on Friday afternoon with a final statement.
Friday's meeting follows Thursday's meeting of the International Compact with Iraq, an initiative to support Iraq's reconstruction efforts.
