PARIS, May 4 (Xinhua) -- Jailed Venezuelan terrorist Ilich Ramirez Sanchez will face a new trial for a series of terrorist attacks in the 1980s in France, a French judicial official said on Friday.
The 57 year-old convicted radical, alias Carlos the Jackal, is currently serving a life sentence in Clairvaus prison in eastern France, for murdering two French secret agents and a police informer in 1975.
The latest charges against Carlos, ordered by French top anti-terror judge Jean-Louis Bruguiere, say "he was involved in killings and the destruction of property using explosive substances," relating to bombings in 1982 and 1983 that killed 11 and injured over 100 people, the official said on condition of anonymity.
Bruguiere concluded the 20-year investigation into Ramirez's possible role in the deadly terror attacks in the 1980s last year. The date of the trial has not yet been confirmed, and it is not likely to start this year, the source said.
Three more suspects, namely Christa Froehlich, 64 and Johannes Weinrich, 59, both from Germany, as well as 65-year-old Palestinian Ali Kamal, will also face trial in the case for their participation in the attacks.
After years on the run, Ramirez was finally captured by French secret agents in Sudan in 1994 and was jailed three years later.
