PARIS, May 3 (Xinhua) -- Francois Bayrou, leader of the Union for a French Democracy (UDF) party has said he will not vote for Nicolas Sarkozy, candidate of the ruling Union for a Popular Movement (UMP) party during French presidential elections run-off, French daily Le Monde reported in its Friday edition.
Speaking after Wednesday's televised debate between Socialist candidate Segolene Royal and Sarkozy, Bayrou said "I will not vote for Sarkozy," adding he will "probably not" make any declarations before the end of the second round, according to the daily.
According to the daily, Bayrou was upbeat about Royal's "performance in the debate."
Bayrou, who presented himself as a centrist candidate during campaigns for the 2007 presidential elections, garnered 18.57 percent of all votes cast during the first round, representing around 6.8 million voters.
His supporters are highly coveted by both Sarkozy and Royal. Bayrou declined to advice his supporters on how to vote, nevertheless implying he wouldn't vote for Sarkozy.
