TALLINN, May 2 (Xinhua) -- The consular agency of Estonia's Embassy to Russia will suspend its normal services to non-Estonian citizens, the Estonian Foreign Ministry said Wednesday.

A spokesman of Estonian Foreign Ministry confirmed that regular consular services will be resumed after Russia provides safeguards for Estonia's embassy in Moscow.

Estonian Foreign Minister Urmas Paet said on Tuesday that Estonia's Embassy to Russia will stop providing consular services to people who don't have an Estonian nationality until the situation in the area surrounding of the embassy return to normal.

A group of Russian protesters launched attacks on Estonian Ambassador to Russia Marina Kaljurand and her car when she was holding a press conference in Moscow, a spokesman of Estonian Foreign Ministry said.

The Estonian government decided last Thursday to remove a statute of a Red Army soldier in Tallinn, which triggered mass protests in the country.

Also on Wednesday, a leading Russian newspaper quoted Paet as saying that the relocation of the Soviet war memorial will not affect the relations or cause tensions between Estonians and ethnic Russians in the country.
