PARIS, May 1 (Xinhua) -- Nicolas Sarkozy, candidate
for the ruling Union for a Popular Movement (UMP) will win over Socialist
party's candidate Segolene Royal in the second round presidential elections with
53 percent of votes against 47 percent, according to a poll made public by
Ipsos/Dell on Tuesday.
According to the poll, the electoral base of each of
the final candidates are solid: 88 percent of voters who have intentions of
voting for Royal and 87 percent of voters who have intentions of voting for
Sarkozy have declared their definite choice.
The poll also shows that 16 percent of the voters
have yet to express their intention.
Among the voters for the centralist candidate
Francois Bayrou who obtained 18.6 percent of all the valid votes in the first
round, 41 percent will vote for the socialist candidate, 32 percent for Sarkozy,
27 percent will abstain from voting or are still hesitating, according to the
poll.
Meanwhile, 61 percent of voters for far-right leader
Jean-MarieLe Pen would choose Sarkozy, 15 percent will choose Royal and 24
percent will abstain from voting or are still hesitating.
Le Pen, candidate for National Front who obtained
10.44 percent of all the valid votes in the first round, urged on Tuesday his
voters to "abstain massively from" the second round presidential elections which
are slated to be held on Sunday.
The poll was made with 1,362 people investigated by
telephone from April 27 to April 30, constituting a national sample representing
the population inscribed on the electoral lists.
The presidential runoff will be held on Sunday in
France when the French voters could choose their new president of a five-year
mandate.
