PARIS, May 1 (Xinhua) -- Jean-Marie Le Pen, president of the far-right party National Front on Tuesday called his supporters to massively abstain from the second round presidential elections which is slated on Sunday in France.

"I invite the voters who showed their confidence in me to give their vote neither to Segolene Royal nor to Nicolas Sarkozy," Le Pen declared in an address during a public gathering on the occasion of international labor's day.

It would be "illusory and dangerous" to vote for the Socialist candidate Royal to "get revenge for the hold-up carried out on our program" by Sarkozy," candidate for the ruling Union for a Popular Movement, he said.

It also would be "insane to hand our votes to a candidate who continues to consider us extremists,'' he added.

Le Pen, who defeated the Socialist candidate in the last election in 2002 before being defeated in the second round by President Jacques Chirac, took the fourth place in the first round this time, with 10.5 percent of all the valid votes.

Analysts estimate that most Le Pen's voters would vote for Sarkozy in the second round.

According to the latest poll made by Ipsos/Dell for French magazine Le Point and SFR, Sarkozy would win 53 percent of the votes in the presidential runoff, against 47 percent for Royal.
