CAIRO, May 1 (Xinhua) -- Iraq has expressed
reservations on the call for a timetable for the withdrawal of multinational
forces in Iraq, the Egyptian MENA news agency reported on Tuesday.
Iraqi Deputy Foreign Minister Labid Abawi was quoted
as saying on Monday that it is premature to discuss the withdrawal of foreign
troops. He added that it's up to the Iraqi government to define the timetable
due to its position.
On Monday, Italian Ambassador to Egypt Antonio Badini
also noted that there is no need to have a definite timetable for the withdrawal
from Iraq, adding that there were other formulas giving the same end and taking
into consideration UN relevant resolutions.
Preparatory meetings are being under way to discuss a
draft resolution to be adopted by an international conference on Iraqi security
to be held in Egypt's Red Sea resort Sharm el-Sheikh later this week, with some
countries calling for a timetable for the withdrawal of multinational forces in
Iraq, according to MENA.
Moreover, the document of the International Compact
with Iraq (ICI) to be launched during the ICI conference in Sharm el-Sheikh on
May 3 will call for discarding violence against Iraqis and respecting human
rights and liberties, MENA said.
The document will also call for establishing a
unified, federal and democratic state and achieving reconciliation among Iraqis
and different groups in the country through sharing resources justly and
cooperating with Iraq's neighbors, the report said.
Representatives from some 49 countries and
international organizations will attend the two meetings on Iraqi reconstruction
and security to be held respectively on May 3-4.
