Report: Israel's FM Livni has no plan to replace PM Olmert

    JERUSALEM, May 1 (Xinhua) -- No secret talks have been held by Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni to discuss a possibility of replacing Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, local newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth reported Tuesday evening.

    Sources in Livni's office clarified that the foreign minister is not behind any move to oust Olmert, denied some reports that she was planning to work to replace the prime minister who was severely spanked by the Winograd Committee for failures in last summer's Lebanon War. Full story

Jihad hails Winograd report as victory for Hezbollah

    GAZA, May 1 (Xinhua) -- The Palestinian Islamic Jihad (Holy War) movement considered on Tuesday an Israeli blame on its Prime Minister Ehud Olmert for the failure in handling the Lebanon war "a victory for the Lebanese resistance."

    Results of an Israeli governmental investigative panel, headed by former judge Eliyahu Winograd, was another victory for Hezbollah fighters and also the Palestinian resistance, said Khaled al-Batsh of the Islamic Jihad. Full story

Israeli PM to struggle for coalition stability

    JERUSALEM, May 1 (Xinhua) -- Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert will hold a series of meetings with his coalition partners in an effort to stabilize the government following harsh criticism by a Lebanon war report, local daily Ha'aretz reported on Tuesday.

    Olmert will meet Shas Chairman Eli Yishai, Yisrael Beiteinu Chairman Avigdor Lieberman and Pensioners' Party Chairman Rafi Eitan on Tuesday afternoon to garner their supports to preserve the government's stability, the report said. Full story

Israeli PM likely to survive panel's accusation

    JERUSALEM, April 30 (Xinhua) -- Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert still sees a chance of survival with backing from the ruling coalition, despite a scathing government inquiry report, which blamed him for launching a war with the Lebanese Hezbollah group without sufficient deliberation.

    The report, presented on Monday by retired judge Eliyahu Winograd, head of the government-appointed inquiry committee, accused Olmert, Defense Minister Amir Peretz, and former Chief of Staff Dan Halutz of failing in their roles in the war last summer. Full story

Lebanon war report says Israeli leaders fail in their roles

      JERUSALEM, April 30 (Xinhua) -- An Israeli government-appointed committee Monday accuses Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, Defense Minister Amir Peretz, and former Chief of Staff Dan Halutz of failing in their roles in last summer's Israel-Hezbollah conflict.

    The panel led by retired judge Eliyahu Winograd made the remarks at a press conference in Jerusalem on Monday afternoon as he formally released an interim report looking into Israeli leader's management of the conflict which Israel called the Second Lebanon War. Full story

Palestinian official expects increased pressure following Israeli panel report against Olmert

    RAMALLAH, April 30 (Xinhua) -- Palestinian senior official expressed expectation Monday that pressures would increase on the Palestinians after a panel blamed Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, which may lead to his resignation.
