HAVANA, April 28
(Xinhua) -- Cuban Economy Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez said on Saturday that the
country's leader Fidel Castro is recovering well, but did not say whether Castro
will attend the upcoming annual May Day events.
Castro is recovering favorably, remains linked to all
the nation's key decisions, and has started meeting foreign guests, Rodriguez
told reporters at a press conference. But time for a full recovery still needs
to heed medical advice, the minister added.
Late Friday afternoon, Bolivian President Evo Morales
said that Castro will attend Cuba's annual May Day celebrations in Havana and
resume power.
Talking about Morales' remarks, Rodriguez said that
all Cubans hope for Castro's quick recovery and return to public life, but
medical advice must be followed.
If Castro does not attend the celebrations, the Cuban
people will not be disappointed, because everyone wants him to take care and
make a full recovery soon, said Rodriguez.
The 80-year-old leader has not been seen in public
since undergoing an intestinal operation last July. He temporarily handed power
to Defense Minister Raul Castro.
