BEIJING, April 27 -- American companies and investors
can help advance a "greener" economy in China while reaching their own business
goals, according to the 2007 White Paper.
"American companies and industry organizations can
play an important role in addressing China's environmental problems," said the
report, published by the AmCham.
"They have extensive knowledge and experience in
project management, manufacturing process training and best practices,
cutting-edge technologies, environmental management systems, and cooperation
between public and private sectors, all of which can contribute to successful
pollution prevention."
AmCham said it supports China's efforts to improve
market conditions for environmentally friendly products and services. However,
barriers to foreign participation remain, the report noted.
"Including environmental stewardship into economic
planning and decision-making helps guide investors and enterprises toward
sustainable, efficient operations," the report said.
"Additionally, cities and companies that lead this
transition will attract investment over others, while attracting top talent."
AmCham supports the expansion of market-based
instruments to implement environmental policies. "Such tools allow businesses a
degree of flexibility in their pollution control efforts while minimizing the
cost of environmental protection for the Chinese economy."
