Bush chides Democrats for war spending legislation with pullout timetables

    WASHINGTON, April 7 (Xinhua) -- U.S. President George W. Bush on Saturday criticized Democrats in Congress for passing emergency war spending bills along with timetables for withdrawing American troops from Iraq.

    "In both the House and Senate, Democratic majorities have passed bills that would impose restrictions on our military commanders, set an arbitrary date for withdrawal from Iraq, and fund domestic spending that has nothing to do with the war," Bush said in his weekly radio address. Full Story

Bush renews veto threat on Iraq bills

    WASHINGTON, April 3 (Xinhua) -- U.S. President George W. Bush renewed his pledge on Tuesday to veto a war funding bill that includes a deadline for withdrawing U.S. troops from Iraq.

    "I've made it clear for weeks that if either the House or Senate version of this bill comes to my desk, I will veto it," Bush said at a White House press conference. Full Story

U.S. Senate passes Iraq withdrawal bill

    WASHINGTON, March 29 (Xinhua) -- U.S. Senate on Thursday passed a bill that would require President George W. Bush to bring all combat troops home from Iraq within a year.

    On a 51-to-47 vote, Democrats narrowly pushed through the 122-billion-U.S. dollar war funding bill, which includes a timeline to pull out all U.S. combat troops by March 31, 2008. Full story

U.S. House passes war funding bill with pullout deadline

    WASHINGTON, March 23 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. House narrowly passed a war funding bill on Friday that would require the Bush administration to withdraw all combat troops from Iraq by Sept. 1 next year.

    The 124 billion U.S. dollars bill was approved in a vote of 218-212, with all but 14 Democrats voting for it and two Republicans breaking with their party leaders to vote in favor of the legislation. Full story
