GAZA, April 26 (Xinhua) -- Palestinian factions have told Egyptian mediators their acceptance to commit to a fragile ceasefire with Israel following several violations, local media reported on Thursday.

The Egyptians met Israeli officials last night in a bid to rescue the ceasefire that took effect last November but deteriorated after Hamas, the most committed group, suddenly launched dozens of rockets into Israel this week, said the reports.

Three Palestinian militant groups claimed responsibility for launching missiles from the Gaza Strip into nearby Israeli communities.

The separated attacks were carried out by militants linked to Fatah movement, the Popular Resistance Committees and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP).

The Palestinian militants say their attacks against Israel were in response to the ongoing operations in the West Bank that left some 10 Palestinians dead earlier this week.

The Egyptian mediators urged Israel to stop raids in the West Bank which is uncovered by the ceasefire and not to carry out retaliatory offensive against the Gaza Strip, according to sources close to the Egyptians.

On Wednesday, Palestinian Prime Minister Ismail Haneya of Hamas promised that his coalition government was working to reinforce the ceasefire.
