GAZA, April 25 (Xinhua) -- Foreign and Palestinian
journalists rallied Wednesday at Israel-Gaza Strip border crossing, calling for
the release of BBC reporter Alan Johnston.
Jointly organized by The Foreign Press Association (FPA) in Israel and the Palestinian Committee to protect journalists in Gaza, Wednesday's rally brought together at
least 50 foreign and Palestinian journalists who called for immediate release of
British journalist Johnston.
Johnston, 44, was abducted in Gaza on March 12 by
unknown militants and since then held hostage.
"We have not forgotten his plight and we will not
stop until he is freed," said Chairman of the FPA Simon McGregor-Wood, while
reading a statement for the group.
The Palestinian journalists accused the Palestinian
National Authority of not exerting enough efforts to guarantee the freedom of
Johnston.
"We hold the Palestinian Authority, presidency,
national unity government and security apparatuses responsible for not being
able until now to free our colleague Alan Johnston," said Shams O'uda, member of
the Palestinian committee.
He said the journalists' rally at Erez Crossing was part of a series of activities in helping the release of Johnston and vowed to continue such activities until the "freedom of Johnston."
