BEIJING, April 25 (Xinhua) -- China detected and blocked more than 2,300
items of porn on the Internet and filtered nearly one hundred million other
hazardous bits of online information during the first two months of 2007.
The information was released by the National Working Group for Anti-Porn
and Anti-Piracy (NWGAA) on Wednesday.
The NWGAA also announced that it sealed off obscene online game websites
nearly 10,000 times, blocked more than 40 online porn books and magazines,
closed down 38 Internet bars which did not have business permits or which
allowed minors in and fined 100 other infringing Internet bars over the two
month period.
The NWGAA has set up a 24-hour hotline for people to report information and
five to seven valid clues about online porn information are received per day.
The NWGAA said it is impossible to totally stamp out online porn and that
the fight requires an unrelenting effort.
The NWGAA held a videoconference in mid April to urge departments to take a
resolute attitude to combating online porn.
An official of the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television
(SARFT) on Wednesday said the SARFT has allocated some staff to checking and
detecting online porn film and video clip downloads and online porn chatting.
The Ministry of Culture announced that those who disseminate imported
Internet cultural products without the Ministry's approval or spread porn
products will have their business licenses revoked.
