BEIJING, April 23 (Xinhua) -- China is ready to actively participate in
international cooperation on climate change in a responsible attitude, said
Chinese State Councilor Tang Jiaxuan in his talks with visiting British Deputy
Prime Minister John Prescott on Monday.
Tang said the issue on climate change needs joint efforts from around the
world, urging developed nations to transfer technology to developing countries
in a more open attitude "in a bid to improve global capability to tackle climate
change".
"The Chinese government attaches great importance to the climate change
issue, and will be guided by the scientific concept on development and follow
new industrialization path to achieve coordinated development between economy
and population, resources and environment," said Tang.
The two countries signed a memorandum of understanding on education and
scientific research after the talks.
Prescott arrived in Shanghai last Thursday, starting his weeklong China
tour with issues on environmental protection and climate change on top agenda.
Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao is expected to meet with Prescott on Tuesday.
