Earthquake hits Batannes island, northern Philippines

    MANILA, April 21 (Xinhua) -- A magnitude 5.4 quake shook Saturday morning the Batannes island in northernmost part of the Philippines without causing casualty or damage, local television network GMA News reported.

    The report quoted the United States Geological Service as saying that the quake took place at 08:32 a.m. local time (0032 GMT) and its epicenter was 85 km north of Basco, Batanes, or 435 km south of Taibei, China.
