TIRANA, April 20 (Xinhua) -- The Kosovo issue should be resolved with a U.N. security council resolution, Macedonian President Branko Crvenkovski said Friday.
Crvenkovski made the remarks when meeting with Croatian President Stipe Mesic and Serbian President Boris Tadic on the sidelines of the summit of Balkan leaders in Ohrid, a lakeside resort in Macedonia.
"Given the fact that no agreement has been reached between Belgrade and Pristina, the best way to solve the issue is to refer it to the United Nations," said Crvenkovski, quoted by Makfax, Macedonia's independent news agency.
The Macedonian president reiterated his position that the U.N. envoy Marrti Ahtisaari's blueprint constitutes solid ground for a Kosovo status settlement, as it provides guarantees about Macedonia's border with Kosovo and it also promises an international presence in the future.
Mesic said he shared Crvenkovski's views on the issue, while Tadiz reiterated Serbia's strong opposition to Ahtisaari's plan, saying it was unacceptable.
