BANGKOK, April 19 (Xinhua) -- Chairman of the Council
for National Security (CNS) of Thailand General Sonthi Boonyaratglin Thursday
said the possibility of announcing a state of emergency still can not be ruled
out if politics turns turbulent in the coming months.
"April and May will be a political turning point because the public will
see concrete results from our four main policies," Sonthi, also the army chief
and the leading coup maker of last year, was quoted by local news network The
Nation as saying.
During the past month, the increasing anti-coup and anti-government rallies
have aroused the request of state of emergency from the military and the CNS.
However, Premier Surayud Chulanont said on March 29 that no imminent emergency
decree will be imposed on Bangkok by the government since the situation now has
yet to reach the point that requires state of emergency be implemented.
"I do not want to see confrontation or clashes between Thai people.
Therefore we will do our best to solve the problems facing the country," said
the premier.
