LONDON, April 19 (Xinhua) -- Chelsea cut Manchester
United's Premiership lead to three points with an easy 4-1 win at lowly West Ham
on Thursday.
Two sublime Shaun-Wright
Phillips strikes in the first-half and second half goals from Salomon Kalou and
Didier Drogba earned a valuable three points for the Blues.
The comprehensive victory, coming 24 hours after the
Red Devilshad stretched the gap at the top to six points by beating Sheffield
United, also spelled doom for the Hammers, who are now second from the bottom
and need a miracle to beat the drop.
Liverpool moved back into third place, two points
above Arsenal, after two Steven Gerrard goals settled a 2-0 victory over
Middlesbrough. They have 68 points from 34 games, 14 points behind second-placed
Chelsea.
Blackburn have not given up hope of sneaking a UEFA
Cup spot after a 3-1 home win over rock bottom Watford.
The opening 30 minutes at Upton Park were evenly
contested, andit took a moment of individual brilliance from Wright-Phillips to
break the deadlock for Chelsea.
He held off Yossi Benayoun and then deceived Jonathan
Spector before driving a perfect finish across Robert Green.
Although a rare Petr Cech slip allowed Carlos Tevez
to level for the hosts five minutes later, Phillips volleyed in for the second
time to restore Chelsea's lead within seconds.
Chelsea made it three after 52 minutes, when Frank
Lampard's free-kick found Drogba, and even though Green blocked his effort on
the line, Kalou was on hand to turn in.
In the 62nd minute, Drogba wrapped up the impressive
display from the champions, shaking off Lucas Neill's attentions to beat Green
with ease.
