Olmert invites Arab leaders to peace summit

    JERUSALEM, April 1 (Xinhua) -- Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said Sunday evening that Israel would like to call for a regional conference with all Arab leaders, including the king of Saudi Arabia.

Riyadh summit agrees to revive Arab peace initiative

    RIYADH, March 28 (Xinhua) -- Arab leaders agreed to reactivate a Saudi-proposed Arab peace initiative without any modification during a closed-door session on Wednesday, local media quoted a well-informed Arab League official as reporting.

    The leaders, convening in Riyadh for the 19th Arab summit, called for activating the peace initiative, which was adopted in Beirut summit in 2002, aiming at reinforcing an Arab effort to end the Arab-Israeli conflict, the source said on condition of anonymity.

    The peace initiative calls for Israel's pullout from Arab land occupied in the 1967 Middle East war and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state in return for the normalization of ties with Arab.  Full story

Moussa: Arabs ready to enter peace process ending Arab-Israeli conflict

    RIYADH, March 28 (Xinhua) -- Arab League (AL) Secretary General Amr Moussa said here on Wednesday that Arabs are ready to enter a peace process aimed at ending the Arab-Israeli conflict which he said is the core of instability and tension in the Middle East.

    "The Arabs have prepared themselves to start a peace process to end the Arab-Israeli conflict, partly through helping the Palestinian warring factions reach an agreement in Mecca to end infighting and pave the way for formation of a national unity government," Moussa said while addressing the opening session of the 19th Arab summit that started in Saudi capital of Riyadh earlier in the day.  Full Story

 
     RIYADH, March 28 (Xinhua) -- UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon Wednesday put forward at the opening session of the 19th Arab summit six common goals with the Arab League (AL) in a bid to maintain peace and stability in the Middle East.

    "Our two organizations (the UN and the AL) are close partners. As we move ahead, let us remember goals that have the power to unite countries and people throughout the region," Ban said while delivering a speech before the Arab leaders.

    Among the six common goals, an independent Palestinian state next to a secure Israel state, a stable, independent and democratic Lebanon, an Iraq at peace with itself and its neighbors,a peaceful solution to Sudan's Darfur strife rank the first four.  Full story
