UNITED NATIONS, April 17 (Xinhua) -- UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon condemned on Tuesday the shooting rampage at Virginia Tech, where a total of 33 people were killed.

"On this very tragic accident, I feel very much sorry and troubled," Ban told reporters at the UN headquarters.

"Any such rampant killing of innocent citizens and children is totally not acceptable and I condemn it in the strongest terms possible," the UN chief said.

"This tragic incident underscores the common bonds of all humanity. We all grieve with the survivors and the families of all victims," Ban's spokesperson Michele Montas told a noon briefing at the UN headquarters.

"The secretary-general hopes for a profound healing process for the many individuals and communities affected," Montas said. กก
