SINGAPORE, April 17 (Xinhua) -- Singapore's security experts on Tuesday
said businesses should take action to limit social and economic impact of terror
attacks.
Some 500 experts attended a conference, organized by the Singapore National
Security Coordinating Secretariat (NSCS) and the Singapore Manufacturers'
Federation, to discuss ways to increase the resilience of the business sector in
Singapore, local television Channel News Asia reported.
Experts said that preparedness is competitive advantage for businesses.
Singapore's Minister of State for Trade and Industry S. Iswaran said, "If
I'm able to demonstrate as a company that I've taken reasonably secure measures
to protect my operations, to protect my supply chain and so on, when I deal with
my customers and they see this, they will have greater confidence in giving me
more business. That's the advantage."
Experts also suggested that senior level managers are provided
certification to oversee security issues.
Iswaran noted that the government and the industry could work out the
scheme to cooperate in overseeing security issues.
Created in 2004 to counter terrorism, the NSCS helps businesses to prevent
and react strategically to terror strikes.
