KABUL, April 14 (Xinhua) -- A suicide bombing killed at least six policemen
and injured seven others outside a police building in Khost province of eastern
Afghanistan on Saturday, a local border police officer Slahudin told Xinhua.
The blast occurred at a main gate of a major border police building near
Khost city, the provincial capital, at around 12:00 p.m. (0730 GMT), he added.
"Six or seven border policemen were killed in the explosion," Slahudin
said, adding the suicide bomber, who was trying to enter the building, blew
himself up when he was stopped by policemen at the gate.
No one has claimed responsibility.
Khost province, which borders Pakistan, has been a hotbed of Taliban and
other anti-government militants.
Taliban commanders claimed 2,000 suicide bombers would launch a bloody
spring offensive against foreign troops and other targets in this country.
Due to rising Taliban-linked violence, over 800 persons have been killed in
Afghanistan this year.
