National emblem of the Republic of Ghana

Located on the northern coast of the Gulf of Guinea in western Africa, the Republic of Ghana covers an area of about 240,000 square km and has a population of 22 million belonging to four ethnic groups, mostly Christians. The official language is English. The national capital is Accra. During the colonial period, the country was known as the "Golden Coast." The current president is John Agyekum Kufuor.

Sino-Ghana relations have been growing smoothly since China and Ghana restored diplomatic relations in February 1972. In 2002, Ghana's President Kufuor visited China. Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao visited Ghana in 2006.

Ghana is a destination country for Chinese citizens and tourist groups. In recent years, the bilateral economic and trade relations have become increasingly closer, with bilateral trade reaching 769 million U.S. dollars in 2005.
