China, Japan agree to enhance exchanges, dialogues to promote mutual understanding

   TOKYO, April 11 (Xinhua) -- China and Japan agreed to enhance dialogues and maintain frequent exchanges of visits to promote mutual understanding, a joint press communique said here on Wednesday.

   In the communique, issued after talks between visiting Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe, the two sides agreed that frequent exchanges of visits between top leaders of the two countries should be maintained.

   They also agreed to hold frequent talks on occasions of international meetings. Full story

   TOKYO, April 11 (Xinhua) -- China and Japan on Wednesday vowed to strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields in efforts to forge strategic relationship, according to a Sino-Japanese joint press communique.

   In the communique issued after talks between visiting Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe, both sides agreed to boost cooperation in environmental protection including prevention of water and air pollution, and to cope with climate change as well as acid rain and sand storms. Chinese premier urges Japan to properly handle history, Taiwan issues

   TOKYO, April 11 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Chinese Premier Wen Jiabaoon Wednesday urged Japan to properly handle history issues and the Taiwan question.

   During talks with his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe, Wen said the history issues are affecting the national sentiments of the Chinese people and are matters of grave importance and principle which have a direct bearing on the political foundation of China-Japan relations.

   The wars of aggression launched by the Japanese militarists against China not only brought catastrophe to the Chinese people, but also inflicted suffering on the Japanese people, Wen said.  Full story

   TOKYO, April 11 (Xinhua) -- Chinese and Japanese leaders on Wednesday reached consensus on building a strategic, mutually beneficial relationship.

   A joint press communique issued after talks between visiting Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe said the two countries shoulder the solemn responsibility to make constructive contributions to peace, stability and development in Asia and the whole world. Chinese premier holds talks with Japanese PM

   TOKYO, April 11 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao held talks with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe here Wednesday, during which the two leaders agreed on the content of the strategic, mutually beneficial relationship between the two countries.

   They also agreed to set up a high-level economic dialogue mechanism, and to upgrade cooperation in various areas through joint efforts.

Chinese premier kicks off "ice-thawing" visit to Japan

   TOKYO, April 11 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao arrived here Wednesday for a three-day official visit he described as an "ice thawer" of Sino-Japanese ties following the "ice-breaking" trip to China last October by his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe.

   The visit is the first by a Chinese premier since 2000 and occurs against the backdrop of the two countries working hard to mend relations. Full story
