TOKYO, April
11 (Xinhua) -- Chinese and Japanese leaders on Wednesday reached consensus on
building a strategic, mutually beneficial relationship.
A joint press communique issued after talks between
visiting Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe said
the two countries shoulder the solemn responsibility to make constructive
contributions to peace, stability and development in Asia and the whole world.
On the basis of this understanding, China and Japan
will be engaged in mutually beneficial cooperation in an all-round way at
bilateral, regional as well as international levels, in joint efforts to make
contributions to their own countries, the whole of Asia and the world at large.
In doing so, the two countries will gain mutual benefit and expand their common
interests so as to push the development of their bilateral relationship to a new
height, it said.
As for the main content of the strategic, mutually
beneficial relationship, the communique said China and Japan should support each
other's peaceful development, enhance political mutual trust and increase the
exchange of high-level visits.
The communique also called for enhanced defense
dialogues and personnel and cultural exchanges.
The relationship also involves a wide range of
cooperation in such fields as energy, environmental protection, financing and
intellectual property rights.
The two sides also agreed that the nuclear issue on
the Korean Peninsula should be resolved peacefully through dialogue and said the
Association of Southeast Asian Nations could play an important role in regional
cooperation in East Asia, on the basis of the principles of openness,
transparency and tolerance.
Premier Wen arrived here on Wednesday for a three-day
official visit.

In the press communique issued after talks between visiting Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe, the two sides said they are committed to efforts to make the East China Sea a "sea of peace, cooperation and friendship."
The two sides will conduct joint development in accordance with the principle of mutual benefit as a temporary arrangement pending the completion of demarcation of sea borders, it said. Full story
China, Japan agree to enhance exchanges, dialogues to promote mutual understanding
TOKYO, April 11 (Xinhua) -- China and Japan agreed to enhance dialogues and maintain frequent exchanges of visits to promote mutual understanding, a joint press communique said here on Wednesday.
In the communique, issued after talks between visiting Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe, the two sides agreed that frequent exchanges of visits between top leaders of the two countries should be maintained.
They also agreed to hold frequent talks on occasions of international meetings. Full story

Chinese premier urges Japan to properly handle history, Taiwan issues
TOKYO, April 11 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Chinese Premier Wen Jiabaoon Wednesday urged Japan to properly handle history issues and the Taiwan question.
During talks with his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe, Wen said the history issues are affecting the national sentiments of the Chinese people and are matters of grave importance and principle which have a direct bearing on the political foundation of China-Japan relations.
The wars of aggression launched by the Japanese militarists against China not only brought catastrophe to the Chinese people, but also inflicted suffering on the Japanese people, Wen said. Full story
