BEIJING, April 10 -- Chinese President Hu Jintao says the central government will provide full support for Hong Kong's newly appointed third Chief Executive Donald Tsang and his government.

President Hu Jintao congratulated Tsang on his appointment as the third-term Chief Executive of the Hong Kong SAR.

Hu Jintao said, "Your have won overwhelming victory in the election by Hong Kong's electoral college.. This reflected the support and wide acceptance of Hong Kong residents and the electoral committee for your administrative program and your government policy since you first became Chief Executive."

Hu says the next five years are very important for the development of Hong Kong and there are heavy tasks and a lot of work to do.

He is also confident the newly appointed Chief Executive will lead the Hong Kong SAR government and all circles in the region in a joint effort for a better future.

Tsang says he appreciates the trust and support of the central government. He vowed to do his best to serve the government and the citizens of Hong Kong.

Tsang was sworn in by premier Wen Jiabao Monday morning.

The premier expressed his approval of Tsang's administrative program that focuses on improving people's living standard, pursuing social harmony and promoting democracy.

Wen Jiabao said, "Improving people's living standards, creating social harmony and promoting democracy are the three goals that you set for yourself. I think they are at once your philosophy and guidelines of government. They are also strenuous tasks to be accomplished."

Tsang won overwhelmingly over Alan Leong in the election two weeks ago.

He will begin serving his new term on July 1st. It will end on June 30th, 2012.
