BUENOS
AIRES, April 9 (Xinhua) -- Maradona's personal doctor Alfredo Cahe said on
Monday the former soccer star "may accept psychotherapy" to follow a treatment
against alcoholism.
"The psychological problem is slower, but Diego is
reacting, not immediately, but maybe he will accept some kind of psychotherapy
as appropriate. He is listening to suggestions during conversations with two or
three colleagues," Cahe told Argentina's Radio 10.
Although Maradona "has privileged health. His
cardiovascular system and his liver are well, but his emotional arena is not in
the best of conditions. It is not the first nor the last time," added Cahe.
Cahe foresees Maradona's recovery depends "on the
most difficult step: to face the psychopathological or abnormal aspects which
cause Diego to have (drinking) relapses: the analysis of his true personality."
Cahe was more cautious than the director of Guemes
hospital, where Maradona has been hospitalized since March 28, and said, "it
will still be quite a while" before granting him a medical discharge.
The director, Hector Pezzella, said separately on
Monday that Maradona, 46, could probably leave the health center sometime this
week.
Cahe added, "it is amazing, but from the general
point of view" Maradona "is very healthy," despite having suffered an
acute-toxichepatitis due to excessive drinking and smoking.
Cahe also explained the former soccer star's "health
is better, he has overcome his drinking abstinence quite well."
"On Sunday Maradona was watching televised soccer
games and after 20-25 minutes he turned around and asked: How is my liver? which
means he is becoming conscious of some of his ailments," said Cahe.
